They should also be allowed to use the style from any artists which they managed to capture in data models, it's impossible for the neural net to recreate the images it was trained on. I think that AI artists should credit the artists that they trained their models on to the best of their ability. All great innovation and artists work would not exist without the work of those who came before, and there is no problem with this. This comic wouldn't exist without the work of many artists that it was originally trained on. Also, even if you didn't utilize artists in your prompt, it doesn't mean that you didn't indirectly use from them or technically speaking, all of them. Training/mixing data models off of others artwork to capture a style would not be the same as taking a 1:1 picture. Taking 1:1 pictures of art and selling them is not the same as deep learning AI neural nets. The situation is more complicated than what is covered/depicted in the comic. In its execution you commit a false equivalence logical fallacy. And while I generally agree with the message of your story, I find the "copying style moral of the story" to be rather hypocritical. I implore both sides to hear me out on this, I want some answers and insight.įirst of all, this was fantastic. logic being if you used art and image provided by everyone free of charge then the model (which is the product of that process) should also be available for everyone to use as well. Only issue I'd have with A.I models is when a company trains the A.I on people's images and art and then puts it behind a paywall. so it's hypocritical to suddenly start talking about "no you can't use another artists style without their permission".Īnd to equate learning as style of an artist with taking a photo of painting and selling is false equivalency (Ironically some artists actually make a living by painting replicas of famous paintings and selling them, again, nobody ever complained about that as long as the replica was never presented as an "original" in which case it would be a case of fraud which is outside the scope of this discussion XD) Nice work on the comic, but strong disagree with the notion that you need "permission" to use someone's art to train A.I on that art, artists literally have been doing that for hundreds of years if not more (literally borrowing stylistic elements from each preceding generation or even copying styles wholesale, it's literally the foundation of how artists form their styles, permission wasn't even aa thing to consider and IMO should never be), even more many artists today sell fanart of characters and in styles they don't own and make thousands of dollars of it (I say good for them). can be looking to connect to others, + writers, grad-students, teachers. Meanwhile most of the public is buried in angry media, dystopian media, or fluff.īut animators who are losing some commissions for furry porn to A.i., and wondering how they're going to pay the rent on their $2k/month crappy apartment by the freeway. are locked in boring reports no one will read, or only a few will be able to study at university. Or even if they have a vague idea - practical research, demonstration, education and training. Unfortunately, a lot of our neighbors don't know about better systems, existing or proposed. and even better is possible with a.i., robo. Some are doing a lot better than others, now. but I'll go a few steps further - better worlds are possible, better cities, workplaces, economies, healthy affordable eco/social sustainable housing for all. The future will look at a photo of now the same as we look at a photo in the 1920's with horse drawn carts, unable to fathom who and how they managed to collect all that horse poo, or what jobs they even did, felt basically any relation to our life and condition in any way.Ī good message, I was saying something similar about live music and radio, theatre vs, tv & animation. Soon, we'll look at gamemasters and wonder how the heck did they manage to do that? With Stuff like RPG games we're sitting at a crossroads looking into 2 worlds. Who can do that now? Who can even retell a simple story and hold a child's interest? In the past, people would use thier imaginations to create entire societies of rules and laws without writing anything down. I see that as a message of Adam and eve eating the apple. Technology is always a double edged sword. I practice mnemonics, and had the same experience.
